Canada 1998

Mount Robson at 3950m is the highest mountain in the Canadian rockies and dominates the scenery in isolated glory for miles around. Rearguard mountain on the left is the size of Scotland's Ben Nevis but the true scale of this range is impossible to appreciate on a picture, and even when you're there you only get an idea of the size of this fantastic wilderness when you begin to try to walk anywhere.

Another view of Rearguard mountain across Berg lake which sits at the foot of Robson. This lake spends much of the year frozen and on the right, the great Robson Glacier can be seen carving its way down the mountain.

The early morning mist whisps over the mountains that surround Banff. Although on the edge of the Rockies, the mountains here are still awesome. Not a bad place for a game of golf either.

Accompanied only by the setting sun and the rumbles of distant avalanches, a lone walker descends from the summit of Mumm peak to the Berg Lake campsite.

The coastal mountains of British Colombia, taken half way between Vancouver and Whistler.

More of Mount Robson, Berg lake and the glacier. The vertical distance from the lake to the summit is 2500m (eight Eiffel towers).

Kinney lake on the Robson trail to Berg lake. The unparalled serenity of this spot in the heart of the Rockies is only partially captured by this photo. Lake after lake, waterfall after waterfall, and mountain peak after mountain peak, each one more impressive than the last, fill one of the world's most beautiful national parks.
